NHL Western Division Set - Eastern division in the air

Thursday night the Flames and Canucks both lost in key games in the Northwest Division. However, because the Canucks lost they are now officially out of the playoffs and on the golf course. That means the western division is all set. I’ll provide a full recap of the match-ups for the western division on Sunday or Monday.

The Eastern Division is still up in the air but it’s really quite simple. If the Washington Capitals win they’re in. Tie and they’re in. Lose and they’re out.

Boston Bruins don’t Clinch Playoffs

The Boston Bruins have their playoff hopes in their own hands. However, that also requires them to actually WIN some games. Maybe somebody should actually tell them that! Unfortunately, nobody has and so they lost in a shootout to the New Jersey Devils. Meaning that they still haven’t clinched a playoff spot, a very similar story is happening up in Ottawa, but that’s besides the point.

The Carolina Hurricanes, however, did make some strides in solidifying their playoff hopes. They were able to pull off a big win against the Tampa Bay Lightning with Chad LaRose coming up big with a hat trick!

Finally, the Chicago Blackhawks are still mathematically able to make the playoffs… but really, what has Math ever done that’s worked? I think anytime you actually use the word “Mathematically able” you’re bound for failure of some sort.

NHL Western Division Clearer - Eastern Division Not So Much!

Last night was a huge night in the NHL with many teams all competing for that final playoff spot. Here are the results and the effect.

Calgary Flames defeats Edmonton Oilers - Oilers are now mathematically eliminated from the playoffs.

Vancouver Canucks loses to Colorado Avalanche - This severly cripples the chances of the Canucks making the playoffs. They now need the Nashville Predators to start losing some games.

Nashville Predators defeat the St. Louis Blues - The Predators leap-frog the Canucks for the last and final playoff spot.

Over on Eastern Division.

Washington Capitals Defeat the Carolina Hurricanes - This puts them in a tie for first in their division. However, Carolina holds the tie breaker of winning more games in the year. Therefore, if they both win the rest of their games then Carolina will make the playoffs.

Is that clear? I sure hope so because figuring out all that stuff makes my head feels like I just wrote some sort of crazy final exam!

It’s good to be in the Central Division!

Taking look at the final schedules it looks like it’s good to be in the NHL’s Central division. The Nashville Predators have three games remaining and are 1 point behind Vancouver (who also have three games remaining). But looking at the schedule the Predators are playing the St. Louis Blues twice and the Chicago Blackhawks once. These two teams

On the other hand the Canucks, Flames, Avalanche and Oilers all have to play each other and are all powerhouse teams able to make a large playoff push.

Whatever way the cards fall, can any team take out the Red Wings in the first round?

Oilers slim playoff chance alive

The Oilers were able to pull off a huge win last night against the Calgary Flames and keeping their slim playoff chances alive. The Oilers were able to score two unanswered goals in the third to keep the dream alive (sorta like the shirt over at Defunker).

The Dallas Stars were also able to pull off a win on Saturday night making it one more win for a playoff spot for the Stars.

Tonight is some big games with the following games

Flames play the Canucks
Predators play the Red Wings
Avalanche play the Wild

Northwest teams playing for a purpose

Craig MacTavish stated at the start of the Edmonton Oilers season, “In April, we want to be playing for a purpose” and that’s exactly what they’re doing right now.

Looking at the Western Division the break-down goes like this (according to TSN)

Detroit - 109
San Jose - 104
Minnesota - 93
Anaheim
Dallas - 90
Calgary - 90
Colorado - 90
Nashville - 86
Vancouver - 86
Edmonton - 84

Vancouver and Nashville have 4 games left in the season which means a maximum of 94 points total. Therefore, Minnesota needs 1 point to secure a playoff spot, Calgary, Dallas and Colorado need two wins to secure a playoff spot. Wow, is the Western Division ever a cluster!
The Eastern division is much more spread out with teams jocking for position. While, Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals are 2 points out of a playoff spot.

This saturday is a huge day in the NHL and the playoff picture!

Northwest Division Getting Exciting

If you aren’t excited about the northwest division right now then you can’t get excited in anything.

Tonight’s games include some KEY northwest battles.
Minnesota Wild vs Edmonton Oilers - The Oilers are three points out of a playoff spot while the Wild only need four points to secure a playoff spot.

Vancouver vs. Colorado - The Canucks squandered a win in the third period last night. Tonight is a key game of two teams still battling for a playoff spot. Either, both or none of these teams could take those final playoff spots.

Playoff Spots are Running out

Today is the first official post here at GetYourJersey.com and what a perfect time to start. The playoffs are about 2 weeks away and playoff spots are getting filled up quickly. Teams that people thought had no chance a month ago…. (Edmonton Oilers or Toronto Maple Leafs) are now just out of a playoff spot. These are exciting times being a hockey fan.

So, who’s it going to be this year? Will another dark horse make the finals like the Carolina Hurricanes? Or will it be a powerhouse like the Anaheim Ducks or Detroit Red Wings. What about those kids over in Pittsburgh?

This blog will keep track of all the happenings around these playoffs. With most teams only having 5 games left this is perfect time to start this site and blog!
